Private Elzeor S. Joseph LaFontaine, Company K / G, 02nd Colorado Infantry / Cavalry

Elzeor S. J. LaFontaine enlisted as a Private on 28 Jun 1862.
He was mustered into Company K of the Colorado 2nd Infantry regiment 28 Jun 1862.
He served 15 months in the 2nd Colorado Infantry regiment, 28 Jun 1862 to 01 Oct 1863.

Elzeor S. J. LaFontaine transferred to Company G of the Colorado 2nd Cavalry regiment on 01 Oct 1863.

He served 20 months in the 2nd Colorado Cavalry regiment, 01 Oct 1863 to 05 June 1865.

While Elzeor LaFontaine was in service, the 2nd Colorado Territorial Infantry regiment was engaged in the battle of Honey Springs, Indian Territory [present date Oklahoma], which had a direct and decisive influence on operations to control the Indian Territory in 1863.

While Elzeor LaFontaine was in service, the 2nd Colorado Territorial Cavalry regiment was engaged in the following battles that had a direct impact on the course of the war and / or a decisive influence on a campaign:
  • Byramís Ford [Big Blue River], Mo., 22-23 Oct 1864
  • Westport, Mo., 23 Oct 1864
  • Newtonia, Mo., 28 Oct 1864

    Elzeor [Joseph] LaFontaine was mustered out on 05 June 1865.

    The CWSSS database reports 'Joseph' as an alternative given name.

    James W. Giltner, Charles Greiner, and Elzeor [Joseph] LaFontaine were intially buried in the Kokomo cemetery. They were among the 146 bodies moved from the Kokomo Cemetery between August and November 1966. The old mining town of Kokomo, Colorado, was abandon and the cemetery was starting to be covered by tailings pond from the Climax Mine.
